What Are High Deductible Medigap Plans?
High deductible Medigap plans offer the same coverage as standard plans, but with much lower monthly premiums and an annual deductible you must meet before coverage begins.
Available in high deductible versions:
- High Deductible Plan G - Available to everyone
- High Deductible Plan F - Only if eligible before 1/1/2020
How They Work
2025 Annual Deductible: $2,950
You pay all Medicare-approved costs out-of-pocket until you meet the $2,950 deductible. After that, the plan covers 100% of additional costs for the rest of the year.
Example
If you have $5,000 in Medicare-approved costs in 2026:
- You pay the first $2,950
- The plan pays the remaining $2,130
- Your total out-of-pocket: $2,950 (plus monthly premiums)
Cost Comparison
High Deductible Plan G:
- Monthly Premium: $30-$80 (average $50)
- Annual Premium: $360-$960
- Maximum Annual Out-of-Pocket: $2,950 + premiums
Standard Plan G:
- Monthly Premium: $140-$280 (average $180)
- Annual Premium: $1,680-$3,360
- Maximum Annual Out-of-Pocket: $283 (Part B deductible) + premiums
